Interior Spotlight: IDDI Reveals Design Inspiration for Selene Oceanfront Residences

Sherif Ayad shares 5 design concepts integrated into the modern coastal interior of Fort Lauderdale Beach’s tallest tower.

Selene Oceanfront Residences, a newly released waterfront development, will rise as the tallest building on Fort Lauderdale Beach. Developer Kolter Urban sought to have every aspect of Selene reflect the unique and perfectly appointed location of being on one of the world’s most celebrated coastlines. To achieve this, Kolter Urban tapped Kobi Karp for the Architecture and and ID & Design International (IDDI) for the Interior Design. IDDI utilized their extensive experience in environmental design to create spaces that would connect residents to the serenity of the beach from the moment they step through the front door.

Modern Coastal Elegance

IDDI set out to extend that serenity of the beach and connection to nature in an upscale, tailored way that’s still very connected to nature through the color palette, forms, textures, lighting and art.

“Throughout the property, we implemented features that would elegantly complement the building’s location on the oceanfront in a modern coastal way,” said Sherif Ayad. “The limestone appearance of the flooring and the reflective blue ceiling in the lobby is reminiscent of the coloring of the ocean, and the carpeting in the Seasons club room and The Wave entertainment lounge is a beautiful interpretation of being under the sea with the coral reefs and ocean light.”

Conceptual Design

“There are five concepts that I think inform the design of Selene,” said Ayad. “They are:

Energy, which comes from water, which surrounds the property and carries throughout the interior symbolically.

Peace and Serenity, which I think we all experience through nature. When you walk into Selene, we want it to express the same serene feeling that takes over you at the spa. We want people to feel like they can leave everything at the door and find peace at home.

Simplicity – We didn’t want the design to be overly complex. Similar to the way that an Armani suit never goes out of style because of the design’s simplicity and quality, we wanted this project to have that timelessness that comes from simplicity.

Connectivity – It was important to us to create a sense of community and connectivity in all the furniture arrangements of the common areas, from the communal log bench in the lobby where people can gather, to the social club and game rooms. We wanted these to be spaces where you could be together alone — where you can sit alone and have your individual space and privacy, but when you want to communicate with others and be in a social setting, you can turn that around in a heartbeat and interact with your neighbors around you.

Transparency – This relates to the idea of indoor-outdoor living and extending the feeling of the building’s outdoor surroundings throughout the interior. All of the common areas have a strong connectivity with the pool deck, which is created through unbroken sightlines from indoor to outdoor, blurring the lines of where one ends and the next begins.”

With prices starting at $900,000, Selene is now accepting reservations for its luxury condominium offering. 196 luxurious oceanfront residences are available offering two-and three-bedrooms, ranging from 1,400 to over 3,200 square feet. Dramatic great room designs provide ideal indoor and outdoor space for entertaining on wide terraces. Flowing contemporary floor plans with floor-to-ceiling windows showcase exceptional direct Atlantic Ocean, Intracoastal, or dynamic city skyline views from over half of the residences. These iconic buildings have been designed with an abundance of corner residences, maximizing the panoramic vistas through immense walls of glass. Selene is located minutes away from the famed Las Olas Boulevard; residents will have access to the best shopping, dining, entertainment, and water-sports venues.
